Pair of contemporary grey painted terracotta artichoke finials
A beautiful pair of painted grey terracotta artichoke finials each being raised atop a stepped pedestal base.
During the Renaissance, the artichoke became a luxury status symbol among nobility in Italy and across Europe. Its exotic, symmetrical shape naturally transitioned into fine art, ceramics and stone or wood carving.
These contemporary examples were produced for decorative purposes and make for striking finial, shelf or mantle display.
The one example does have a repair to its base. However, when facing the forward the repair is not visible. Please see the photos for a more detailed view.
