PAIR OF STUDIO POTTERY PAUL YOUNG CANDLESTICKS

£200.00

Pair of Studio Pottery Earthenware candlesticks with clover and leaf decoration by Paul Young (1961-)

A beautiful pair of three sconce earthenware candlesticks by acclaimed studio potter Paul Young. Each example having a stylish and well executed applied leaf decoration with a ridged stem and painted cloverleaf decoration.

Young draws on the idiom of 18th century Staffordshire ware and their Whieldon glazes as well as European folk art to create narrative tableaux of fanciful creatures and naturalistic scenes. With slips added to the raw clay he then uses coloured glazes to develop layering and rich surface qualities. At the molten state these glazes begin to travel down each piece, merging colours together.

Paul works in a refurbished Victorian railway station in the Midlands and also makes domestic pots much in the tradition of early English slip-trailed ware – with his own distinctive adornments.

A striking decorative that draws strong inspiration from earlier European Folk Art pieces.
