Vintage white plaster portrait bust of a Georgian gentleman by Peter Hone (b. 1941)
A striking and well executed plaster bust by Peter Hone based on the 1828 original by Patrick MacDowell.
Master plaster caster, Peter Hone, is an experienced and expert collector, building up an extraordinary, museum-worthy collection of items in his one-bedroom flat in Notting Hill. Born in 1941, Hone developed a taste for plasterwork during his 15 years managing an architectural antique shop for Lord Jacob Rothschild at Clifton Nurseries in Little Venice, London. From here, his skill in plaster casting flourished, becoming the expert he is today. In fact, Peter Hone is widely considered as skilled as the famous Victorian plaster master, Domenico Brucciani (1815-1880).
Following relocation to the coast of Penzance, Cornwall, Hone took the decision to disperse his remarkable collection, of which this bust was acquired.
