A beautiful early to mid-20th century French wine cellar candlestick featuring a twisted stem and turned loop handle with the circular trip tray mounted atop three feet.
A ‘rat de cave’, or cellar rat, is a traditional French forged-iron candlestick from the Burgundy region designed for navigating dark wine cellars. The curved hook handle allowed winemakers to carry the holder or hang it securely on the rim of an oak wine cask or a wall nail.
A beautiful decorative example with a charming rustic feel. The candlestick is stamped to the base ‘Bourgogne’ with the blacksmith forge mark.
