A beautiful early to mid-18th century Delft charger with central floral decoration and brushstroke and foliage surround. The charger being of typical blue and white Delft colourway.
Delftware—often referred to as Delft China or Delft Blue—was born in the 17th century when the Dutch East India Company flooded Europe with imported blue-and-white Chinese porcelain. When civil war disrupted those imports, clever Dutch potters in Delft, Netherlands, created a tin-glazed earthenware to mimic the highly coveted luxury.
These iconic Delft chargers have a simple but instantly recognisable aesthetic and make for striking mantle or wall displays.
